Background

DayBreak opened in April 2008 following grant assistance from Septhorne Borough Council, Surrey County Council and the Diocese of London. It is a voluntary organisation that provides support to carers and those they care for.  Its objectives are:
  • to provide specialist care and support to people in the community suffering from long-term illnesses, chronic conditions, disabilities, or mental health problems
  • to assist with the rehabilitation and assessment of those returning home following hospital care;
  • to support, advise and provide respite for carers.>

Activities

The Centre provides refreshments, including tea/coffee and lunch.  Various entertainments are provided, e.g. musical performances, arts and crafts demonstrations, bingo or quizzes.

Healthcare

DayBreak is a nurse-led Centre.  Each person has an individual care plan and a health monitoring programme:

Types of medical problems catered for include:
  • CVA (strokes)
  • diabetes
  • heart conditions/angina
  • multiple sclerosis
  • Parkinson's disease
  • rheumatoid/osteoarthritis
  • sight/hearing loss
  • terminal illness
  • mentally infirm
  • elderly
Care provision includes:
  • blood press/sugar monitoring
  • continence care
  • dietary needs
  • health promotion
  • mobility/exercise programme
  • podiatry
  • psychological support
  • showering/personal care
  • social interaction
  • supervision of prescribed medication
  • wound/leg ulcer dressings/pressure area care

Services

At a minimal additional cost, Daybreak will be introducing additional services, such as:
  • Hairdressing
  • Aromatherapy
  • Reflexology

Tuesdays, 10am to 3.30pm

Opening hours are expected to increase over time

Cost

Clients pay £5 a day to attend DayBreak, which covers all refreshments (including a two course meal), entertainment and care services.

Transport

Where clients are unable to get to the Centre through family and friends, transport may be available from one of our volunteer drivers.  Please contact xxxx for further information.

Staff

The DayBreak Centre is managed by Nurse Manager Simon Bhadye who is supported by a team of highly trained volunteers.

Volunteering at DayBreak

The success of DayBreak depends on our volunteers.  Anyone is eligible to apply to be a volunteer. Volunteers are offered training, support and advice and travel expenses.

There are a number of ways in which you can help:
  • provide transport for clients
  • spend time assisting with clients
  • provide a service to clients at the Centre
  • provide entertainment or a social activity

Fundraising

Clients of DayBreak pay £5 a day to attend, but the provision of the service costs £25 per client. The shortfall is made up by fundraising.  We therefore ask for your support in raising £25,000 annually needed to keep the Centre running. You can help in a number of ways:
